Only one today. Is it the lull before the storm? If my ancestors were anything like more recent generations, October is going to be a very busy month for births.
2 September 1868
Birth of Matthew Scott Strachan at Dreghorn, son of John Strachan and Agnes Scott and grandson of my ggg uncle Munro Strachan and Janet Jamieson. He’s with his parents in Dreghorn in 1871, and at Corsehill Square, Dreghorn in 1881 (along with a lot of other Strachan families) age 12 already a coal miner. I can’t find him in 1891 but no doubt he was working as a coal miner somewhere. In 1896 his father died, and Matthew also married that year, at Tarbolton, to Martha Vallance. Then in 1899 his mother Agnes died. In 1901 Matthew and Martha are in Tarbolton with 2 children and three of Matthew’s younger siblings, the boys working as coal miners and the girl as a farm servant. Matthew Scott Strachan died in 1947 at age 78, his death registered in Rutherglen, Lanarkshire.
