Did you sing “Auld Lang Syne” on New Year’s Eve?

A very good article from the BBC about the Robert Burns poem that is sung the world over on New Year’s Eve. But do you know what it actually means? It was written in 1788 and the tune was added later, after Burns had died. It’s about someone reminiscing about the good times they had with a friend when they were children.

Link to the BBC article is http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-25402099
and it contains the words to the whole poem – note there is no “for the sake of” in the Robert Burns version!
