An Ayrshire Logan who migrated to UA and went to Massachusetts, and a Strachan who died in infancy.

5 March 1824
Birth of Jane Logan at Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, daughter of my gggg uncle Adam Logan and Margaret Duncan. Her parents separated, and in 1841 Jane is with her mother and sister in Neilston, Renfrewshire and her father is at Chapelton, Lanarkshire living with another woman with whom he has a young child. Jane married in Neilston in 1847, to agricultural labourer John Cochrane, and they are in Neilston in 1851 with 2 young children and 2 lodgers. They migrated to USA in about 1856/57 and are in the 1880 USA census at Lowell, Massachusetts with 5 children and a grandchild: John Cochran is not working due to brochitis. In the 1900 census they are still in Lowell and John, age 73, is working as a dyer. By 1910 Jane is a widow and is living with her married daughter in Lowell. Jane Cochrane nee Logan, also known as Jeanie, died in October 1911 at Lowell.

Baptism of Peter Strachan at Riccarton, Ayrshire, son of Peter Strachan and Ann Houston and grandson of my gggg uncle Peter Strachan and Mary Monroe. He died in infancy or childhood, as his parents had another son they named Peter born in 1838.

  1. Scotland is one of my favourite places, It’s in my blood and I always feel at home there. My Scottish family came from Aberdeenshire Walker, Gordon and Cowie are just three of the many the surnames I have interest in.
